DrumSpy

About The Project

DrumSpy is a personal project and one of the most technically demanding builds I’ve done. The goal was to make the editorial workflow easier and faster with dynamic data. In 2024, the site was rebuilt from the ground up, moving away from a templated theme to a fully custom Bricks-based design. The goal was to eliminate friction, improve performance, and create a system that could scale with large volumes of content without becoming difficult to manage.

What started as a design overhaul quickly became a full architectural rebuild, spanning roughly four months and touching nearly every layer of the site—from layout and UX to data structure and editorial workflows.

Under the hood, DrumSpy runs on a heavily customized WordPress setup built with Bricks, MetaBox, and custom PHP. We developed a bespoke product CPT to manage affiliate products and metadata, along with a custom PHP-powered repeater system for gear guides that allows complex product comparisons without relying on bloated plugins.

Dynamic tags are used extensively across the site to pull structured data into templates automatically, reducing manual work and ensuring consistency at scale. Despite the complexity, the end result is clean, efficient, and intentionally designed to make ongoing content creation faster and easier—demonstrating how WordPress can function as a powerful publishing and product platform when it’s treated like a system, not a theme.
